and Younger Review

Welcome
to YOU: The Owner's Manual : An Insider's Guide to the Body that Will Make You
Healthier and Younge Review page:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly
recommend it. It presents abundant information in a palatable way. I'm left hoping
that the authors write more books focusing on specific parts of the body in greater
detail. I do have a few criticisms. I would like to see a greater effort to separate
speculation from actual science. For example, when discussing the joys of human
vomiting, they say, "Regurgitation is actually one of evolution's greatest gifts."
Actually, evolution doesn't give "gifts," rather it is purposeless, random, and
meaningless. It doesn't privilege humans over horses, as this paragraph seems
to indicate. There are many other references to how humans lost or gained qualities
"through evolution," something that really isn't proven yet and isn't relevant
to the subjects at hand. Whether an intelligent designer of some sort caused us
to lose our reptilian eyelid, or it came about through countless random mutations
none of us really knows, and it isn't the point of this book. At times the authors
specify the difference between what we believe we know about the body, and what
is still in question; more of that differentiation would add to their credibility.
In general, however, this is an excellent book, and I hope to see more like it.
