Welcome to the The Sims 2 Pros and Cons page.
PROS of The Sims 2

* The sim designer is extremely well done, especially the facial expressions and the amount of variety you can add to the facial types is very good. Just using the tools you can create almost any kind of face including mimicking the appearance of any racial type. In the original, black and asian characters looked like appropriately skinned white people, a little weird.

I also like being able to choose formal, causal, swimsuit, etc.. Although there are only 4 sets of workout clothes (even with expansion.)

* The lifecycle is excellent, sims go through all stages of life, (and one additional stage in the expansion pack). They have babies, get married die, and all that. It's awesome!

* Adult sims can enter into any type of relationship they want including serial dating, and same-sex relationships.

* The houses are really fun to design and the 3d view really lets you get inside. I can usually mimic any of my real life friends houses, or workplaces. They instantly recognize their house.

* Looks AWESOME on flat-panel display. Very impressive.

* The "Townies" that came with the hot date expansion pack are back, so you can have a fun game even if there is only one house in your town. You can even date the mailwoman!

CONS of The Sims 2
* My best and fastsest computer will not run the game. I am a computer engineer and have tried everything. I have over 150 computer games and they all work except for this one. Be careful if you have an Nvidia Ge force 4 with an AMD chipset. Others have complained also and the patch doesnt fix the problem.

* Free will can be frustrating. If you assign a task to a sim while he is engaged in "free will" actions, he will drop whatever he is doing and perform the new task. I have no complaints with the free will except for this, and in big families it is good to leave it on. There should be an option to queue new commands until hte current free-will action is done. It gets quite annoying with multiple sims. For example you have to sit and wait for your sim to get out of the tub before you can tell him to pick clothes to wear or he will suddenly rise up out of the bath half-dirty. Nobody wants to see that.

* The items seemed to be intentionally scaled down to make room for expansion packs. That's just cheap. Same is true with hairstyles. Shockingly the expansion pack does not add many more hairstyles, clothing options, or furniture. Also lame.

* You are limited to the angles of your walls and furniture, which limits creativity.

* The aspiration system is good but the rewards are to easy to get, and too weird. It's hard to roleplay a realistic family when you have 37 money trees, 2 Magic love inducing hot tubs, a mood elevator, 5 sunglass stands and a 4 magic baby bottle makers. The good news is you can ignore aspiration entirely without too much consequence.

* It takes too long to move betewen lots. You have to have lots of patience to enjoy the common lots.
This game is excellent. It is a great game for dads to play with their 4-10 year old girls especially (a doll house that daddy won't mind playing with.) Hope you like it.
