It is nearly impossible to imagine that Conrad always spoke English with a heavy accent. Despite being considered a nautical writer, Conrad explores not only Mr. Kurtz soul, but also his own. Conrad himself agreed that his Heart of Darkness never really shifted from actual facts. Heart of Darkness is told from the perspective of Marlow (Conrad in diguise). Marlows story is one of a self realization, and many perilous obstacles in the African jungle. Marlow goes on a steamboat through the very heart of Africa in order to rescue Kurtz. Conrad so adeptly capturs the African landscape and scenario, that the reader almost imagines being a part of the story! Marlow's search leads him to discover the great evil of Kurtz, but he also discovers how Kurtz is the only one who is not hypocritical. Yet we are reminded of the evil in the world by Kurtz famously ambigious lines "The horror! The horror!". If you would like to find out what this horror is, pick up a copy from amazon today, and read this great classic novel. Buy the Heart of Darkness Book
