by Faith Hill Review

Welcome
to the Fireflies by Faith Hill Review page:
"Fireflies" is delightful. Faith
Hill doesn't oversing at all, which was one of the biggest problems with her previous
album, the uberslick "Cry." "Fireflies" is much more country, but still retains
its touches of pop and adult contemporary (case in point, the elegant, epic closer
"Paris"). Faith Hill also has a knack for choosing songs with intelligent lyrics,
such as "Paris," the quirky and fun "Dearly Beloved" and the thinly-velied polite
war critique "We've Got Nothing But Love To Prove." The flaw with this album is
that the songs are not immediately memorable or hooky (like Shania Twain)...it
takes a couple of listens for the tunes to sink in. However, definite highlights
include the lovely, breezy opener "Sunshine and Summertime," "Stealing Kisses,"
the duet with Tim McGraw "Like We Never Loved At All," which features a more-than-familiar
melody line, and the album's true highlights, the beautiful "If You Ask" and the
subtly astounding "Wish For You," one of the most beautiful, heartfelt and understated
songs to be released in 2005, in any genre, period. I only wish Faith Hill would
record an album made up entirely of knockouts like "Wish For You." Either way,
I love the album, love the cover, and totally dig her Rose Garden-era Lynn Anderson
look.
